GIANT GLOBE GOES ON DISPLAY IN DOUGLAS CHURCH
An exhibition featuring a giant illuminated globe sculpture depicting the Earth from space has gone on display in a church on the Isle of Man.
Gaia by artist Luke Jerram has been installed in the nave of St Thomas' Church in Douglas.
The display of the artwork, which is 20ft (6m) in diameter, coincides with Earth Day on 22 April and will be on show in the church for three weeks.
Created in partnership with the Natural Environment Research Council, it is based on detailed NASA imagery and has previously been exhibited around the world.
The project to bring the exhibition to the island has been supported by Net Zero Isle of Man, the Isle of Man Arts Council and energy company Orsted.
Organisers said there had been great demand for tickets, which are free for daytime visits, over the opening weekend.
A variety of events in the church are planned to coincide with the exhibition, which will be on display until 12 May.
